as time goes by
It’s so scary to think that it’s already November.
And that makes me stop and think about how quickly this year has just flown by.
As I’ve been told by a number of people – including my father – I haven’t updated my blog as regularly as I did during the year. Actually, naughty me, I realised that I hadn’t updated it since September and that was to tell you about the road trip that Matt and I did to Galway.
That trip was at the beginning of autumn and the weather was beautiful, come to think about it the weather until last week had been almost unbelievable for this side of the world. About three weeks ago I was walking around the city of London in a tank top and totally confused by the crazy weather. (I also hear that Melbourne has had almost unheard of warm weather for October which leads me to believe more and more in global warming).
And then last week it just changed. We actually had snow last Tuesday as I was coming home from basketbal and I could hardly believe that it struck so swiftly and surely.
Boy is it cold. I was in Dublin over the weekend and while it was sunny during the day, the wind was bitterly cold and chilled me almost to the bone.
I wanted to use the introduction to cleverly lead into me talking about the new James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, that I saw on the weeknd while I was in Dublin, but I got sidetracked talking about the turn of the weather.
I loved the new Bond film. Looking back over my blog archive I’ve realised that I wrote about Casino Royale just under two years ago when it was first released and that I loved that one too.
I still want to be a Bond girl – I would argue that secretly a lot of women do. Especially as I watch the Bond films over the years I notice that that Bond girls become more three dimensional, more competent and more exciting. I love the action in the latest film, the stunts and chase sequences were spectatular and I do like that they are using Judi Dench more and more in the recent films as she’s amazing and should not be wasted.
There is also the fact that Daniel Craig is pretty nice to look at and that the Bond films have always been the type of film that generally both partners can enjoy. There was no argument on Saturday afternoon about which movie Matt and I should see, Bond had come out of Friday, so that’s what we were going to see.
I’ve always been slightly Bond obsessed – I blame my parents who were also quite keen, partly because (if I remember correctly) their first date was to see The Man with the Golden Gun – and as a result I know quite a bit of useless Bond trivia. The last weekend I was in Dublin, two weeks ago, we’d watched a documentary on Ian Fleming hosted by Joanna Lumley. It was really interesting and had a lot of interesting facts about Ian Fleming that I hadn’t known. In London last weekend, we’d gone to the Ian Fleming exhibition at the Imperial War Museum but it seemed that we’d already heard most of the information from Ms Lumley and she presented it in a much more interesting way.
So it’s been a full Bond-filled couple of weeks for Matt and I and I’ve enjoyed it immensely.
I still really want to be a Bond girl.
