it’s curtains for me…

My curtain fell down yesterday morning.

Random – perhaps. Matt told me last night that this was a random comment to make in a Skype conversation.

I suppose that if you have no back story – no real concept of the troubles I have with the curtain – then my exclamation of frustration at said curtain could be considered somewhat random.

The curtain has had a habit since I moved into the flat in 2006 of periodically falling down without rhyme or reason. One minute is it up, shielding my eyes from the morning “bright” (not sun, it is London of course) and the next it’s falling from my window, giving me a heart attack and taking months off my life.

Why does it fall down? Honestly, your guess is as good as mine. Perhaps if I violently tried to open or close it constantly it would have a reason to fall but generally there’s nothing anywhere near it to warrant it falling down, it just chooses its times carefully so that it would cause the maximum amount of damage to my heart when it does.

Now, I know that I have lots of other things to be writing about (Morocco to finish, Florida to start, Germany to continue with) so I won’t keep banging on about the curtain but I thought that you’d like to know the kind of things that take me away, even momentarily, from writing about the things that I should be writing about.

Some may call this procrastination, I prefer to think of it as me caring about you all to interrupt the regular feature for that particular Odd Spot that you all look out for.
